Bone marrow is 7 today

Today it is seven years since my husband’s bone marrow transplant started working.
Tonight ,we are going out to celebrate with our family ,any excuse for a party!

The first day that we got the news that it had started working was an unbelievable day, just that morning a young doctor had told me that the medical team had a meeting and decided to proceed with another transplant as they thought the first one hadn"t grafted. Two hours later, another doctor entered the room,I was sitting feeling miserable but hadn’t told my husband the bad news at that stage ,as I didn’t know how to.
She came in ,with a broad smile on her face, and announce,'you’ve got neutrophils ’ .An unbelievable moment.
That evening a huge fireworks display took place at Titanic Quarter in Belfast and we had a great view from the hospital window.
We celebrated with chocolate and apple juice,no champagne allowed, just yet.

He has never looked fitter or better,he swims 3-4 times a week and walks a lot.
Life is good .

Fantastic news, congratulations! I hope you and your husband have a wonderful day!

That’s fantastic Una. I remember the day my neutrophil count started to climb and the feeling of relief that came with the news.

I hope you had a great day and will be able to celebrate for many years to come with your husband.
