Welcome to our forum — getting started guide

New here? This post walks you through everything you need to know to participate in the forum — from creating your account to joining the conversation.

In this guide

Creating an account

To participate in the forum — posting, replying, or liking content — you’ll need an account.

  • Click the Sign Up button in the top-right corner of any page.

  • Enter your email address, choose a username, and set a password.

  • Check your inbox for a confirmation email and click the link inside to verify your address.

  • Once confirmed, you’re in — you can start browsing and posting right away.

Resetting your password

Forgotten your password? Please follow these steps:

  • Click Log In in the top-right corner.

  • Select I forgot my password below the login form.

  • Enter the email address linked to your account and click Reset Password.

  • Open the reset email and follow the link — it’s valid for a short window, so please use it promptly.

  • Choose a new password and log in as normal.

Note: If you don’t see the email within a few minutes, check your spam or junk folder.

Reading topics

Click any topic title from the topic list to open it. Posts are displayed in chronological order, so you can follow the conversation from start to finish just by scrolling down.

For longer threads, the conversation timeline on the right-hand side is your navigation tool. It shows a vertical track representing the full length of the topic, with a handle you can drag to jump to any point.

The timeline tells you which post you’re currently viewing and how many posts are in the topic in total.

At the bottom of the timeline you’ll see a last post button — click it to jump straight to the newest reply without scrolling through everything in between.

On mobile, the timeline collapses into a progress bar at the bottom of the screen — tap it to expand navigation controls.

  • Drag the timeline handle to jump to any point in the topic.

  • Click the last post arrow at the bottom of the timeline to jump directly to the newest post.

  • Click the first post arrow at the top to return to the beginning.

  • The date markers alongside the timeline show when posts were written — useful for finding recent activity in long-running discussions.

Tip: When you return to a topic you’ve visited before, you will automatically scroll you to the first post you haven’t read yet — so you never lose your place.

Creating a topic

A topic is a new thread or question you start for others to respond to. Think of it as opening a conversation.

  • Navigate to the category where your topic belongs (e.g. General Advice).

  • Click the New Topic button in the top-left of the page.

  • Write a clear, descriptive title and compose your message in the editor below.

  • You can format text using the toolbar, or use Markdown shortcuts like **bold** and *italic*.

  • When you’re happy with it, click Create Topic to publish.

Adding a post

A post is any message within a topic — including the first one you write when creating it. You can also add a post to contribute to an existing discussion.

  • Open a topic you’d like to contribute to.

  • Scroll to the bottom and click inside the reply box, or click the Reply button at the bottom of the page.

  • Type your message. You can format the text and add links using the editor toolbar.

  • Click Reply to publish your post to the thread.

Note: New members may have some initial posting limits while the system gets to know you — these are lifted automatically as you become more active.

Replying to a topic

You can reply to the whole thread, or direct your reply specifically at another member so they get a notification.

  • To reply to a specific post, click the Reply button that appears at the bottom of that individual post.

  • To quote someone, highlight their text and click the Quote button that pops up — their words will be included in your reply.

  • To mention someone by name, type @username and they’ll receive a notification.

  • Once you’ve written your reply, click Reply to post it.

Tip: You can like any post by clicking the heart icon below it — a great way to show appreciation without adding a reply.

That’s the essentials covered. If you run into anything not mentioned here, feel free to post in the Site feedback category.
